Description:

"Deep web" of FamilySearch unindexed images

How to find, link them to people in your tree, and cite them in your reports. This will draw on education we have received in the past about record indexing systems, analysis of the image filmstrip rolls, and how to find and use the excellent FamilySearch citations.

* Deep Web
The deep web, invisible web, or hidden web are parts of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard web search-engines.
Using the search engines at FamilySearch is part of the deep web which you will not find in a search using Google. Facebook groups can be searched (not by Google) along with Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other websites.

* Get to the unindexed images

** focus on place, not surnames

** focus on Collections

** use the map to get to your place of interest

** access from the FamilySearch Research Wiki

** once into the filmstrip, remember to use the matrix to analyze what you are seeing before diving in

** Use the finding aid near the beginning of the film

*** See https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/United_States_Index_Systems for more information about types of indexes

Video Finding Elusive Records in FamilySearch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn2VY-wSfkw

*** "Waypoints" - breakdowns of the huge collections

*** How to attach found records to a person in FamilySearch FamilyTree

** Access from FamilySearch Catalog

** Access by batch number

* How to find and use FamilySearch citations

** if it has been attached to a person in FamilySearch FamilyTree, it will be in their Sources tab on their profile page

** if you have found a record in FamilySearch, it is in the Information tab, under the Catalog Record title & film note

The citation can be copy/pasted from either place
