Alexis Hacker Scholz: sparing you all the sight of me eating fresh tomatoes and tacos. LOL. Robert Marvin: Here from Southern California, 100 degrees out there this afternoon. Nice to be inside with friends. Melanie Hinds: In the Chicago area it's a sunny 65 degrees and a bit windy. Sky looks so blue with the white fluffy clouds. valorie she/her: Hi Melanie, it's gonna be rather warm and somewhat smoky here today.

We began with some memories brought on by the smells, tastes and feeling of Fall. valorie she/her: Karen, grab those stories from FB and send 'em to MaryLynn m.strickland@...

Cheri Sayer: Welcome Meg!  Did you "Subscribe" or use my link? Meg: hi, how do you subscribe? VZ: To get meeting information and discussion, head to https://skcgs.groups.io/g/Society and click the Join button. Meg: I'm at the library and I do not have a mic or camera. VZ: Very happy you were able to chat with us today, Meg.

Cheri Sayer: Is our topic Genealogy of Chicken today! HA!

Debbi: I have ear muffs on right now! [maybe in response to the story about butchering chickens?]

Anna Lowe: Sorry I’m late. I was deep into Familylocket podcast and lost in time. 🤣I dream of a dozen parallel lives to cover my genealogy interest. valorie she/her: Anna, I dream about genealogy too! Sort of disorienting to awaken! Or maybe you meant enough time to follow all your lines, in parallel! Cool thought.

As more stories were told, valorie she/her: send those stories to m.strickland@... for the blog. Even a few sentences can be joined with other stories to create a wonderful narrative.

Evelyn Jenkins: Hello from Gulfport Mississippi. I heard about you on Conference Keeper. VZ: \o/ We love Conference Keeper!

Michelle: I have 4 usb drives with various conferences, 2016-2018 (NGS, FS, NWGC) Does anyone want them? VZ: We'll talk about this privately.

Cheri Sayer: Happy Birthday Evelyn! Ginney Pumphrey: today is my daughter's birthday. Thursday is my mom's and she'll be 104. VZ: Happy birthday to all!

Anna Lowe: Where are you located Michelle? I grew up in central IL. Michelle: I am in Kent WA but raised in NH.

Cheri Sayer: Are there any other people on today who are new to the Gen Chat group?  Please let us know your name and city, and how you found us. Thanks for joining us!

We talked a bit about the advantages of these online meetings, and online research. valorie she/her: I think Cyndi *had* bunny slippers! valorie she/her: welcome Emma! Ginney Pumphrey: It's great to be able to attend meetings that are in other states that I would not be able to attend in person. Emma: emmamcumings@..., for those who wish to help Emma find her family. Also: https://www.archives.gov/seattle. They do virtual consultations.

valorie she/her: To find a Family History Center or Library anywhere: https://www.familysearch.org/centers/locations/. The main FHL also does online consultations.

Debbi: Great book on coal mining in WA state: The Coals of Newcastle - A Hundred Years of Hidden History by the Newcastle Historical Society. valorie she/her: Thanks for that, Debbi!

Cheri brought up the importance of FindaGrave headstone photos, because stones decay, fall over and even disappear. D2 is said to be safe for almost all stones to clean them, as long as you use a very soft brush. Available locally sometimes, or from BillionGraves. Kathryn Schultz: I saw on a BillionGraves webinar that they sell D2. Bill Butcher: D2 solution how-to vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Oz3Ar2mM1s.

Debbi: Just got my renewal email from Ancestry - definitely increasing their fees but... VZ: Me too, Debbi. I can afford and continue to find it essential to my research, but I'm thankful it's still available free from Family History Centers and many local libraries, including KCLS.

Melanie Hinds: Going to have to leave. It's been nice visiting with all of you. 🙂

We discussed other books about local community history, including The Egg and I about a real local chicken farm. Betty: The Egg & I was my HS play. Anna Lowe: It’s a great book. Betty: Ma & Pa Kettle was a spin off.

Michelle: I have an appointment coming in so I have to leave the group. The session  was very interesting. I will try to REMEMBER to join in again. Cheri Sayer: I'll have to leave now also. Good session!

Debbi: Any ideas on where to get court records (charges, sentencing, jail time, etc) from 1906 Maricopa, AZ? I contacted the county clerk about one year ago and they informed me they don't keep records that far back. SusanB - WI: Have you searched at FamilySearch's wiki for the county and looked at which records they have? Debbi: Thanks Susan - I will check that out! VZ: I suggest also looking at the Catalog directly. Kathryn Schultz: The Superior Court wouldn’t have the records unless his case was appealed, would it? Betty: Old court records may have been forwarded to the State Archives.

VZ: After I mentioned researching a Black miner in Franklin for our https://skcgs.groups.io/g/Black-Heritage-Franklin group, who came from Randolph County, Illinois and the history of slavery in Illinois, Anna Lowe: Edwardsville IL at that time tried to get away with calling slaves “employees”. If you are ever in Edwardsville visit the small museum about that time.

SusanB - WI: Have to leave, great conversations today. Good luck Debbie on tracking down an interesting story. Meg: Thank you. Anna Lowe: Bye now.
